Artist Statement

ShuChih's art is centered on the idea of "gladdening the heart." She finds joy and peace in the creative process, and hopes her work brings the same uplifting experience to those who view it. Each brushstroke is a personal reflection of the beauty of God’s creations.

Working primarily in watercolor and mixed media, ShuChih is drawn to watercolor for its fluidity and spontaneity—qualities that mirror the human experience. With our bodies composed largely of water, she sees a natural, meaningful connection between the medium and ourselves. The unpredictable nature of watercolor reflects the freedom and surrender found in life.

ShuChih's painting is a testament that God's creations do please the eyes and gladden the heart

"Yea, all things which come of the earth, in the season thereof, are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart"

— Doctrine & Covenants 59:18
